Type X

PABCO® WATER CURB® is a moisture-resistant treated core product and is intended to be used in rooms with intermittent high humidity levels as in bathrooms, kitchens and laundry areas. PABCO® WATER CURB® shall not be used in extremely critical areas such as saunas, steam rooms, gang shower rooms or indoor pool enclosures.

PABCO® WATER CURB® panels are manufactured in 1/2" and 5/8" thicknesses and in lengths of 8' or 12'. It has a water-repellent paper (blue-green face paper and gray back) both treated chemically to provide a water-repellent surface. The core of the PABCO® WATER CURB® gypsum panel is chemically treated to make it water-resistant. Tapered edges provide a recessed area that allows tape and joint treatment to be used to create a monolithic (flat) surface.

PABCO® WATER CURB® panels are flexible, may be attached with nails or screws. The gypsum core provides natural resistance to the spread of fire.

5/8" PABCO® WATER CURB® type X treated type X core is recommended as a backing in areas also requiring Type X core for fire-rated systems. 5/8" PABCO® WATER CURB® type X shall be used on fire and sound rated systems where water-resistant gypsum backing board is required. 5/8" PABCO® WATER CURB® type X may be used on ceilings where extra framing is provided; 16" o.c. is the maximum framing spacing for 5/8" thicknesses. Check with your local jurisdiction as a few local codes allow a maximum of 12" o.c. ceiling framing spacing for 5/8" PABCO® WATER CURB® type X.

5/8" PABCO® WATER CURB® treated type X core products are produced with a variety of additional additives providing improved fire resistive qualities. 5/8" PABCO® WATER CURB® treated type X meets the requirements specified by ASTM in the Standard Specification for Gypsum Board (C 1396 type X). The type X definition in ASTM C 1396 describes a wood-framed wall assembly that when tested in a certified fire testing laboratory to ASTM E 119 Standard Test Methods for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials achieves a 45 minute rating for 1/2' thick products and an one-hour rating for 5/8" thick products.

5/8" PABCO® WATER CURB® treated type X core meets the requirements specified by ASTM in the Standard Specification for Gypsum Board (C 1396) for water-resistance and surface water absorption.
